"Wonderland“, 2017, Collagen aus Papier

Die Multi-Media-Künstlerin Mara Mars hat die Serie „Wonderland“ 2017 angefertigt. In einem intuitiven Prozess, ohne Vorstellung, schnitt sie aus den farbigen Papieren verschiedene Formen aus. Darauf folgte eine zweite, mehrmonatige Arbeitsphase, in der sie Formen auswählt, zusammensetzt und zu einer Serie von Papiercollagen zusammenklebt.
Die spielerische Leichtigkeit der Kompositionen und die vielen farbigen Formen regen dazu an, fröhliche Fantasiewelten zu sehen. Gleichzeitig befinden sich aber die Bilder an der Schnittstelle von gemütlich und unheimlich; sie balancieren zwischen Figuration und Abstraktion. Wenn ein Element einer Komposition figurativ bestimmbar ist, wie z.B. ein Baum, wirken die Bilder plötzlich künstlich.
Die Künstlerin erzählt zu diesem Phänomen folgendes:
« Meine Landschaften wurden im Atelier entworfen und verströmen etwas Fremdartiges – Überwältigendes, die Statik scheint aufgehoben zu sein, es fliegt, schwebt und verbindet sich. Die Formen sind bizarr, abstrakt und doch erinnern sie uns an Natur, Bäume und Blumen. Es sind eben Wunderlandschaften.»
Durch einen vollständig manuellen Prozess eignet sich die Künstlerin in dieser Serie die Ästhetik digitaler Bilder an und spielt mit der Wirkung dieser Visionen auf die Betrachtenden.

"Wonderland", 2017, collages made of paper
The multi-media artist Mara Mars made the series "Wonderland" in 2017. In an intuitive process, without imagination, she cut out various shapes from the coloured papers. This was followed by a second phase of work, lasting several months, in which she selects shapes, assembles them and glues them together to form a series of paper collages.
The playful lightness of the compositions and the many colourful shapes encourage us to see cheerful fantasy worlds. At the same time, however, the paintings are at the intersection of cosy and uncanny; they balance between figuration and abstraction. When an element of a composition is figuratively definable, such as a tree, the paintings suddenly seem artificial.
The artist says the following about this phenomenon:
"My landscapes were designed in the studio and exude something strange - overwhelming, the static seems to be suspended, it flies, floats and connects. The shapes are bizarre, abstract and yet they remind us of nature, trees and flowers. They are simply wonder landscapes."
Through a completely manual process, the artist appropriates the aesthetics of digital images in this series and plays with the effect of these visions on the viewer.

L'artiste multi-média Mara Mars a réalisé la série "Wonderland" en 2017. Dans un processus intuitif, sans imagination, elle a découpé différentes formes dans des papiers colorés. S'en est suivie une deuxième phase de travail de plusieurs mois, au cours de laquelle elle a sélectionné des formes, les a assemblées et les a collées pour former une série de collages de papier.
La légèreté ludique des compositions et les nombreuses formes colorées incitent à voir des mondes imaginaires joyeux. Mais en même temps, les images se trouvent à l'intersection du confortable et de l'inquiétant ; elles s'équilibrent entre la figuration et l'abstraction. Lorsqu'un élément d'une composition peut être défini de manière figurative, comme un arbre par exemple, les images semblent soudain artificielles.
Voici ce que l'artiste raconte à propos de ce phénomène :
"Mes paysages ont été conçus dans l'atelier et dégagent quelque chose d'étrange - d'écrasant, la statique semble être abolie, ça vole, ça flotte et ça s'associe. Les formes sont bizarres, abstraites, et pourtant elles nous rappellent la nature, les arbres et les fleurs. Ce sont justement des paysages merveilleux".
Grâce à un processus entièrement manuel, l'artiste s'approprie dans cette série l'esthétique des images numériques et joue avec l'effet de ces visions sur les spectateurs.
