About the event
We all sometimes judge people solely on the basis of their appearance, gender or origin. This pigeonholing serves as orientation, but it is often hurtful and does not do justice to the individual. Mothers have infinite patience? Singles are unhappy? Prejudices shape our perceptions; we categorise people in a matter of seconds and base our own actions on them.
As tempting as prejudices are, in most cases they are hurtful and inaccurate. The fold-out book Kopfschubladen (Head Drawers) is a playful invitation to break down frequently encountered prejudices and to question our "pigeonhole thinking". The contents of the publication were developed within the framework of various cooperations between vatter&vatter and Noëlle Berg, among others with the Kornhaus Libraries in Bern, the youth participation project imagine Basel of Terre des Hommes Switzerland and the Prejudice Oracle.
Noëlle Berg - a woman and artist wanders along the lowlands of modern society on her research journey. The Zurich artist does not want to endure, but to have an effect. She wants to unmask social conditioning and reference culture. She is driven by experiences from her professional and personal life. The resulting work is intended to dislodge and disturb. In retrospect, however, it should seduce us to think about things differently and open our eyes to the beautiful and the possible.
